Boon Oude Geuze Vat 109. This special vintage Oude Geuze is a single-bottle production from foeder 109, a cask with an exceptional history. Once used for cognac, it still possesses a soft and elegant cognac aroma. When Boon Brewery commissioned the cask in 2009, it was carefully sanded on the inside, giving the lambic a subtle, pleasant woody note.
Foeder 109 is an impressive 9,000-liter oak cask, built around 1910 by the Munich cooperage Drexler. Although initially used as a beer cask, it was used for cognac storage from 1935 onwards. Today, lambic is matured in it, which, thanks to this unique history, develops a rich, complex, and distinctive character.
With an alcohol content of 8%, VAT 109 presents itself as a powerful and refined Oude Geuze. The bright golden color is paired with aromas of vanilla and wood, paving the way for a fresh, tart flavor. The interplay of deep oak notes and the lively gueuze acidity creates a perfectly balanced whole.
