Allgäuer Brauhaus

The Allgäuer Brauhaus is one of the oldest breweries in Germany. The beer tradition in the Allgäu region goes back more than 2,000 years, to the time of the Celts. In the 8th century, a monastery was founded in Kempten, which soon had its own brewery. From 1394 onwards, the abbey brewery – the predecessor of today's Allgäuer Brauhaus – is officially mentioned in archives.

Under the leadership of Prince Abbot Rupert von Bodman, the brewery flourished in the 17th century. In 1680, he founded the "Weißes Brauhaus", where yeast wheat beer was brewed for the first time.

After secularisation in the 19th century, the brewery was taken over by master brewer Martin Leichtle. In 1911, the Allgäuer Brauhaus AG was founded by August Weixler with the aim of becoming the brewing centre of Allgäu and Swabia. In 1921, other regional breweries also came together under this roof.

The iconic Allgäuer Büble Bier, introduced in the 1950s, refers to the tradition of children collecting beer in pitchers from the inn. The Altenmünster beers, bottled in characteristic relief swing-top bottles, are also part of the range. Their roots go back to the inn “Zum Adler” from 1453.

Today, the Allgäuer Brauhaus safeguards a beer heritage spanning more than six centuries – with respect for tradition and taste.
