Brouwerij Bosteels
Bosteels Brewery was founded in 1791 by Jean-Baptist Bosteels in Buggenhout, Belgium. For over 200 years and seven successive generations, beer has been brewed with dedication and precision, a tradition that was never interrupted, even during both world wars. This long history of craftsmanship and perseverance has made the brewery what it is today: a showcase of Belgian beer heritage.
Brewing is deeply rooted in the family history. For example, three generations of Bosteels even held the office of mayor in their municipality, which once again underlines the importance of the brewery to the region.
In the 1980s, Ivo Bosteels, son of Antoine, reintroduced the iconic beer of Pauwel Kwak. In doing so, he breathed new life into this historic beer and established the brewery's name in the modern beer world. This marked the beginning of a new era for Bosteels, in which strong Belgian beers took centre stage.
In 1990, Ivo's son Antoine Bosteels – the seventh generation – saw the enormous potential of strong, blond beers. Under his leadership, the award-winning Tripel Karmeliet and the refined DeuS Brut des Flandres were launched. Both beers grew into true classics within the Belgian beer landscape.
On 8 September 2016, it was announced that Brouwerij Bosteels was taken over by AB InBev. Despite this takeover, Antoine Bosteels will remain Chairman of the Board of Directors and will retain an active role within the company. The brewery will remain firmly anchored in Buggenhout after the takeover, where the rich tradition of brewing will continue.
