Brasserie De L'Abbaye Val Dieu

"Notre-Dame du Val-Dieu" was founded in 1216 by monks.

According to legend, valley was so hostile that it was nicknamed "Valley of the Devil". When they settled there, the monks called it "Valley of God", which later gave the name of the abbey of Val-Dieu.

The development of the brewing activity was initially linked to the need to make the water drinkable.

After studying different fermentations for centuries, the Monks refined the production of beer and created special recipes. The beers are still inspired by the monks' original recipes.

The water used comes from the dam of the Gileppe.

The special thing about Val Dieu is that it is the only Belgian abbey beer that is brewed in the monastery itself; where the Christian community is still alive.
