Brouwerij Huyghe
Brewing has been taking place on the original company site since 1654. The current brewery was founded in 1906 by Leon Huyghe.
For a long time the brewery was known as the brewer of the lager: Golden Kenya. Due to the increase in the popularity of lager from the large beer companies, small craft beer brewers in Belgium and beyond were finding it increasingly difficult. From now on, Brewery Huyghe will focus more on export.
Until the mid-1980s, the brewery supplied several dozen cafés around Ghent with lager and soft drinks (Mell's).
The third generation of business leaders, Anita Huyghe and Jean De Laet, focus on brewing heavy, top-fermented blonde beers.
In December 1988, Delirium Tremens was brewed at the insistence of Italy and later also the “La Guillotine”.
In 1992, their son, lawyer Alain De Laet, joined the business.
For a long time, brewing took place in the brewing installation from 1938, with a capacity of 160,000 hectoliters. In March 2012 we switched to a new brewery with a capacity of 350,000 hL.
