Coopers Brewery

Thomas Cooper used an old family recipe to brew his first batch of beer in 1862. He actually intended it only as a medicine for his sick wife, but the resulting beer was so tasty that friends and neighbors soon came to appreciate it for more than just its 'restorative' properties.

Thomas Cooper's growing passion for brewing soon became his profession.

Before his death, Thomas handed over the management of the brewery to four of his sons, thus beginning a proud family tradition that has continued for more than 150 years in an uninterrupted chain of six generations. Each generation of Coopers made improvements along the way.

What makes their beer so special is that they are naturally conditioned. This is an age-old brewing technique that has been passed down from generation to generation, and only a handful of breweries in the world still have the skill and patience to carry out the process on a large scale. Before packaging, a small amount of yeast is added to the brew, which consumes any remaining sugars and oxygen, naturally carbonating the beer and slightly increasing the alcohol content.
