Brasserie La Caracole

In 1765, a brewery was founded in the village of Falmignoul by the Moussoux family.

In 1939, during a violent storm, the large chimney of the brewery was completely destroyed and the brewery was sold to Mr. Lamotte. He operated the brewery until 1971. After 1971, beer is no longer brewed.

Brasserie Caracole was founded in 1990 by François Tonglet and Jean-Pierre Debras. They go looking for brewing equipment and in 1992 come to see an old lauter tun in Falmignoul. When it turns out that the brewery building is completely for sale, they move there with Brasserie Caracole.

The brewery has been productive there since 1994. A special feature is the wood-fired copper brew kettle that is essential for the taste of their beer. This is the only brewery in Europe that still does this.

The name Caracole comes from the nickname given to the inhabitants of the nearby city of Namur, namely snail or slow snail.
