The Sleeping Hat Brewery was founded in 1999 by Dany De Smet and Marleen Vercaigne.
During their search for a nice name for their newly created beer, it sometimes happened, by way of a silencer, that they dipped their newborn son's pacifier in the nameless beer, which seemed to have a miraculous effect. It made Jonas quiet and in a good mood and even fell right asleep... One time Marleen shouted 'That's a real sleeping beer that we brewed!'... We looked at each other and we knew immediately : this was ... Sleeping Cap!
