Oud Beersel

In 1882, Henricus Vandervelden founded a gueuze distillery in Beersel, specialized in the production of lambic, gueuze, faro and mars. His son Pierre continued the activities until 1947. Egidius, another son of Henricus, started his own gueuze distillery in 1922. He only started brewing lambic before the Second World War. His son Henri took over the gueuze distillery in 1953 and expanded the brewing capacity. His cousin Danny Draps succeeded him in 1991, but the brewery did not do well and was eventually closed in 2002.

Gert Christiaens and Roland De Bus decided to save the brewery and took it over in 2003. They took a brewery-malting course and launched the beer Bersalis Tripel in 2005.

After almost five years of absence, Oude Geuze Oud Beersel and Oude Kriek Oud Beersel were relaunched in March 2007. In 2007, Roland was replaced by Gert's father Jos Christiaens as co-owner.

In 2009, "Bersalis Kadet", a blond highly fermented beer, was launched. In 2011 they started with their Bzart beers, lambic or cherry lambic, which are refermented in the bottle with champagne yeast.

In 2022, the café "Het Bierhuis" next to the brewery was reopened after renovation and restoration, in which the original elements were restored.
