Brouwerij Den Herberg
Bart Devillé Van Den Herberg initially planned to grow wine in France, but his wife thought this was too daring an adventure. She sent him to Coovi's information days to take a wine growing course. There he was persuaded to take a beer brewing course.
After a number of experiments, they started the brewery in their current building in Buizingen in 2000. Bart built his brewery from second-hand materials. He made the boiling kettle and the filter tun from old milk cooling tanks. Everything is finished with mosaic tiles, installed by Bart and his team.
When building the brewery, the sale of beer was also considered. The building used to serve as a café; and banquet hall 'The golden lantern'. The idea of having that café to breathe new life into it was born. The café was unplanned; off for the brewery. Café Den Herberg opened on February 1, 2007.
In 2015 they purchased a fully assembled used bottling line. A year later two large fermentation tanks, good for 4 brews.
