Brouwerij La Chouffe - Duvel Moortgat
The story starts at the end of the 1970s, in the heart of the Valley of the Fairies, when 2 brothers-in-law, Pierre Gobron and Chris Bauweraerts, decide to brew their own beer. And so it happened, in Chris's mother-in-law's garage. With the little money they had on hand at the time, they started what brewery fans call the “Chouffe Story”. The first 49 liter brew saw the light on August 27, 1982.
What started as a hobby quickly turned into a full-fledged brewery. And so the brothers-in-law decided to also buy the farm that had served as their brewing site for 4 years. In 1986 they successively threw themselves full-time into the Achouffe adventure.
Ten years later, in 1992, production had increased from 3 400 hectoliters to 5 000 hectoliters per year. The brewery had invested in a new brewing hall and thus increased its production from 22 hectoliters to 70 hectoliters per brew. At the time, the Achouffe brewery only produced large bottles of 75 cl and 'small' barrels of 20 l from La Chouffe and Mc Chouffe. It wasn't until May 2009 that 33 cl bottles came on the market.
Together with the brewery, the gnome family also expanded. Marcel (La Chouffe) and Malcolm (Mc Chouffe) were joined by new friends such as Matthew (Houblon Chouffe) and Micheline (Cherry Chouffe), the youngest member! Each gnome represents a beer from the range, each with its own story and characteristics.
