Trappist

A "Trappist" is a form of abbey beer, but it is important to note that not every abbey beer is a Trappist. Trappist beer, Trappist for short, is a specific type of beer brewed by Trappists, monks belonging to the Cistercian order. It is not a separate type of beer, as is often thought, but rather an indication of its origin.

According to the rules established by the International Trappist Association, the requirements to bear the label "Trappist" and the associated logo "Authentic Trappist Product" are as follows:

• The production of these products must take place within the monastery walls or in the immediate vicinity of the abbey.
• Production must be controlled and directed by the monastic community, with business operations serving the monastery.
• The proceeds from the sale of these products are intended for the needs of the monastic community, to support solidarity within the Trappist Order, as well as for development projects and charitable purposes.
