De Struise Brouwers
The concept of "Struise" is based on creativity, innovation, quality, sustainability and friendship.
Their journey in the beer world started in 2001. The adventure started at De Noordhoek, an ostrich farm located in the middle of the fields of Lo-Reninge. The very first beer was born there under the name Struise Witte, a traditional wheat beer.
The name "Struise" is derived from the Flemish word for ostrich. The brewery's logo proudly shows an ostrich surrounded by a knight's helmet, shield and feathers.
In 2003 they decided to go commercial with their latest creation, a Belgian Dark Strong Ale called Pannepot. Since they did not have their own brewing installation at the time, they brewed their beers at different locations as so-called gypsy brewers. They started at Brewery Coulier and later at Brewery Deca in Woesten.
In 2009 they moved to a charming old school building in Oostvleteren, where they have been brewing their beers independently since 2012.
Heading up the Struise team is Urbain Coutteau as brewer and head of operations. Dion Vandeweghe joins the team as brewer and barrel room conservator, while Tom Coutteau acts as brewing assistant.
