Stekerij Ambreus

What started as a hobby among four friends – Pieter-Jan, Erik, Bastiaan and Jean-Pierre – grew into a real project in 2019: creating their own gueuze. With passion and a nose for taste, they started buying lambic from renowned breweries such as Den Herberg, De Troch and Lindemans to make their own blends.

The first barrels ended up in Jean-Pierre's garage in Halle, which they single-handedly converted into a fully-fledged storage space, even in the middle of the COVID pandemic. In 2020, their first season started with 24 carefully filled barrels.

The need for space soon grew. In 2021, they found a new location in Buizingen: the former café "De Kleine Ardennen". After six months of renovation, they were able to start with a professional barrel room, equipped with a drainage system and an ideal climate for maturation.

The larger space allowed for experiments and laid the foundation for their first Oude Geuze Ambreus. For the bottling in 2023, more than 100 barrels were tasted, analyzed and selected, with advice from experts such as Kloris Devillé and Pauwel Raes. Together with 14 volunteers, 4000 liters of gueuze were bottled in a day and a half.

After refermentation in the bottle, months of maturation and a lot of patience, their dream became reality: a characterful Oude Geuze, ready to share with the world - and to enjoy on a sunny terrace.
