Boon Oude Geuze VAT 108bis is a tribute to a piece of living brewery history. The beer originates from foeder no. 108, an impressive 10,000-liter oak barrel dating back to 1935. This barrel had a rich history of service: for years, it imparted its character to Boon's lambics, with the characteristic volatile acidity from this foeder, in particular, adding layers of complexity to numerous blends.

The brew from April 27, 2016, would be the last to bear this ancient giant. For two years and seven months, the lambic matured in foeder 108, imparting its unique signature. When the cask was finally decommissioned and carefully dismantled in February 2019, part of its soul remained: the best staves are still cherished by Boon and used to restore other barrels.

The Oude Geuze VAT 108bis is the tangible result of this remarkable chapter. With an attenuation of 89%, the beer displays a fine and well-balanced acidity: lively but never overly sharp. The aroma is reminiscent of the previous release, VAT 108 (2017), with recognizable vinous notes that blend elegantly with the unmistakable character of old beer.

On the palate, VAT 108bis reveals itself as a robust and robust gueuze profile, in which the volatile acidity is clearly present but never overpowering. The result is a harmonious Oude Geuze that commands respect: powerful, complex, and layered, with a finish that lingers long.
