Duvel Barrel Aged is an exceptional tasting beer that remains true to the original Duvel recipe but gains a surprisingly complex dimension thanks to a unique aging process. The beer rests for months in carefully selected wooden barrels that have previously aged spirits such as rum, bourbon, or whiskey.

Since the first edition in 2017, the Duvel brewers have been experimenting innovatively with barrels from the world's most distinctive terroirs. This creates a new edition full of depth, finesse, and flavor every time.

For this tenth, celebratory edition, the brewers joined forces with the Mexican distillers of Jose Cuervo. Together they selected barrels in which the famous Tequila Añejo has aged for one to three years. The tequila, made from the agave plant, is world-renowned for its rich, aromatic character. The barrels, still steeped in these characteristic aromas, give the beer a luxurious flavor profile of caramel, vanilla, and subtle wood notes.

This enriches the recognizable Duvel flavor with creamy caramel and vanilla accents, while the elegant hint of tequila remains clearly present. The result? A softer, rounder Duvel with full caramel flavors and a warm, lingering finish—enhanced by the 12% alcohol content.

The tequila barrels slowly release their flavors, allowing the Duvel to gradually blend with the rich aromas of the wood. Each barrel develops in its own way, and Duvel allows this natural process ample time to mature. By constantly tasting and adjusting, the brewers ultimately achieve the perfect balance—and that has resulted in a particularly refined and captivating result for this anniversary edition.
