Boon-Mikkeller Oude Gueuze Americain is a unique collaboration between Boon Brewery in Lembeek and Mikkeller Beer Company in Copenhagen, a Belgian/Danish interpretation of Oude Geuze. The beer is a spontaneously fermented artisanal blond ale, composed of a blend of young and old lambics, and undergoes both oak aging and bottle refermentation. It is bottled unfiltered, ensuring each bottle retains the authentic complexity of traditional lambics.

On the nose, the aroma is immediately recognizable as Boon: pronounced Brettanomyces aromas, often described as the typical "putteke" (a kind of putteke), lend a characterful, almost cellar-like note. The mouthfeel is lighter than some classic Oude Geuzes; the beer is not particularly full-bodied, but compensates for this with a fresh, lively flavor. The profile leans distinctly toward malic and acetic acidity, yet remains controlled and harmonious, supported by a complex oak character that gives the whole a pleasant maturity. The finish is dry and opens the mouth, almost automatically leaving you wanting another sip.

The name "Americain" refers to an old Champagne tradition: batches with a slightly more acidic style were labeled "Goût Américain," as this type of flavor better suited the preferences of American beer lovers. For this collaboration, Brouwerij Boon's goal wasn't to create an overly sour beer, but at Mikkeller's request, an Oude Geuze was brewed with a blend of one-, two-, and three-year-old lambics that had a slightly sharper, vinegarier edge than usual.
