The Chimay Gr Res Bleue Barrique Rhum is a dark beer that only gains depth with age. It offers a harmonious interplay of fruity and chocolatey aromas, which give way to a soft mocha flavour with a lively character.
Since 2015, Chimay has revived an old tradition: a second fermentation of the Chimay Bleue in wooden barrels. This ancestral method gives the beer an exceptional richness and a complex flavour, which is strongly influenced by the type of barrel in which it matures. After barrel maturation, the beer also undergoes a third fermentation in the bottle.
The Grande Réserve matures in carefully selected barrels and is bottled in black bottles, which benefits the beer's maturation potential. Served in the specially designed Chimay glass, the richness of the beer is fully expressed.
The Édition Rhum 2025 reveals a refined nose, in which delicate notes of vanilla and oak subtly merge with aromas of ripe banana and sweet date. A spicy touch of cinnamon adds a layered complexity, rounded off with a hint of apple.
In the mouth, an elegant and balanced palette unfolds: the round flavours of caramel and vanilla contrast beautifully with the wood tones and a light, pleasant bitterness. A hint of roasted malt deepens the flavour, while the alcohol provides a warm, silky finish.
The texture is full and creamy, with a pleasantly soft mouthfeel in which oak and spices subtly resonate.
