Brasserie Des Carrières

The story of Brasserie des Carrières began with the shared passion of two childhood friends, Julien Slabbinck and François Amorison, for the products of their region—especially beer, the Belgian national symbol, renowned worldwide. In June 2010, they decided to fulfill their dream and open their own brewery in their native village of Basècles.

They chose the former Amorison family sawmill on rue de Condé as their location. The building offered numerous possibilities but required extensive renovation and adaptation to make it suitable for beer production. Their goal was clear from the start: to brew an authentic, artisanal beer using only natural, regional ingredients.

This local roots were expressed in a unique way. Julien's father grew the barley in the village fields, barely a kilometer from the brewery. In the nearby castle's malthouse, barely seven kilometers away, this barley was turned into malt. The hops grew literally around the corner: just 300 meters away, in the fields of Julien's cousin, Jérémy Leconte.

It took almost two years for the brewery to take shape. The young entrepreneurs gradually gathered their brewing equipment, often secondhand and sourced from other Belgian breweries that enthusiastically supported their project. At the same time, the old sawmill was carefully restored and transformed into a modern yet artisanal brewing site.

In November 2012, the time had come: for the first time, the sweet aroma of hops and malt filled the air above Basècles. With that, the dream of two friends had become a reality, and a new page was written in the rich Belgian beer tradition.
